The default atheism of the academic humanities has lowered the status of religious critiques of technology, most of which simply oppose technological advancement and few of which evince a robust theoretical understanding of technology. The strongest expression of religious sentiment in the intellectual discussion of technology comes from worshipful pronouncements that tech (as opposed to God) will save us by saving the world.
