Agreed. As I said in a recent post, for too long conservatives allowed the GOP to front for them and did nothing: now is the time. For my part, I'd call upon all Patriots because we need to expand beyond the ideological base, as Klavan suggests in para one. I define Patriots as follows: "Every American who believes in the goodness and promise of this country, honors the Founding and its principles, and recognizes the unparalleled success of the American experiment, qualifies as a Patriot, regardless of party affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin." I've also suggested a self-identification- fly the flag, wear the flag, drive the flag (on your car). We need to know who the patriots are. FJM
Trying to fix the GOP may be like ice skating uphill. They have been nothing but enablers and abusers for sometime. Many are LARPing others are the same people who give money to addicts so they can buy more drugs. Not all of course, some might just be playing the game to have some sort of influence.
Lots of Americans who have voted Democrat just need some truth. They don’t like the Democrat party but don’t see the GOP as better.
Want to see what’s out there? Drive coast to coast. Stop in the small towns and mid-size. Drive through the heartland. You may be surprised what you see.
Well, yes, but look at the Democrats. You want to be like them? No thanks. Both parties need to be reformed—because they always need to be reformed. We're talking about a profession that has never been all that great. You can let the weeds on your lawn run wild until you have more weeds than lawn. That's where we are now. More weeds than lawn. Tear it up and re-seed. I encourage everyone to get involved locally. This is an interesting time because amateurs are needed, at least in a transition to something more enduring. We're just about at rock bottom. Let's ditch "conservative, liberal, progressive" and return to Republican v. Democrat. I ignore the internecine squabbles and the emphasis on culture, morality, religion, class, race, and gender. Nearly everyone has lost sight of what's important, how to prioritize. You already have one party (or one and a half) that wants infinite expansion of federal government. Therefore there is plenty of room for what Goldwater called a choice not an echo. Such a party platform would include politicians who want to decentralize power to state and local government rather than centralized in federal; allowing individuals more freedom and power as opposed to giving paternalistic and tyrannical control to politicians, lawyers, judges, courts, experts, and bureaucrats; an emphasis on public interest over special interests; a balanced market economy that favors widespread competition, participation, and freedom over planning, control, and dominance by two players in every field; a foreign policy that puts American public interest first; a realistic attempt to take the Constitution seriously—literally; a realistic adherence to rule of law, with lawyers and judges who will try to abide by law and the Constitution; a belief that an American identity exists and that it is preferable to multiculturalism. A practical, unromantic, American two-by-four platform. For idealists I recommend psychotherapy, sleep studies, and the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Burke was a damn Whig and a constitutional monarchist. In their glory days, Aristotle was the foundational philosopher of monarchists and the internationalist Catholic Church
So, just how, or what, do you think can be salvaged from the existing GOP? Mitch McConnell has been very, very successful fighting “Red Americans” since 2008 when he went to war with the Tea Party. His GOP ain’t gonna attract anyone it hasn’t already attracted.
If you haven’t got a party to offer, there is no place for these Red Americans you speak of to go.

So the new conservatives are just old democrats.
