Play the notes. Hear the music. Feel the emotions. That's all there really is to it.

Very nice convo. Lost youths may develop their entire life around the rapture of some genre (punk, metal, rap) and seek profundity in this rapture. The distinguishment between the implicit and explicit and the recognition of the failure of a perfect language marks a sorely necessary maturity. I like the way learning Jazz music humbles you to simply play the lines and practice and be unafraid to play what has already been played or say what has already been said. Not everything has to be the most spectacular profound novel thing that no one has ever thought of and will change music forever! There is much joy to be found in simply playing the lines and being capable of that so you can let others solo over you. No need to be in the spotlight all the time.
