Great article, will be sharing. I love American Mind writing. Rational, thought provoking and requires me to think which is more than I can say for most of the writing these days. Keep it up, it's worthwhile.

Another well presented observation. In so many ways your thoughts are right on the money.

Indeed, there will be a reckoning through the swinging of the political pendulum, but to achieve an enduring change will require that each of us AS INDIVIDUALS choose repentance and renewal in our own lives and voices.

We must each begin to develop, establish, and articulate our own more coherent world view that is resistant to the pressures of social noise. We must employ critical thinking that enables us to see through the fog of false information. We must speak Truth quietly and gently, yet firmly and without reservation.

When we as individuals have reclaimed the personal sovereignty that God has granted us, our civil society will become stronger and more “civil”.

Yeah, we all know the story. The question is what are we going to do about it?

For example, should we abandon the GOP or, if not, what is to be done about McConnell’s GOP? Another question is what is to be done about Trump? Has he served his purpose as a circuit breaker or does he have role going forward? The third question is what about the god damned empire that the bureaucracy lives to protect at the expense of everything else?

"Obama, who later scoffed that it would take a “magic wand” to get those rubes their jobs back, apparently never considered that contemning people for problems you don’t have and won’t deign to solve is a great way to get yourself succeeded by somebody like Donald Trump. "

So what you're saying is you need someone even more left wing than Obama, someone who would impose tariffs and try to "bring back manufacturing?"

When you say choose sides, you mean between the progressives and the now even more left wing corrupt and dangerous conservatives?

I used to think that the democratizing force of the internet was unstoppable, but now, I'm not quite so sure. Yes, popular access to information and the thoughts of others is infinitely greater than it used to be, but the same could be said of elite power to surveil and censor. Maybe if "eventually" is a long enough timeframe . . .
