Agreed entirely. Our opponents are at the stage of facts do not matter only FEELINGS, LIES, BRAINWASHED IDEOLOGY that has proven to impoverish, enslave and murder on a mass scale. Today our opponents must be looked at for what they are: NARCISSISTS. EVIL. DESTROYERS. And we—those who value the individual, liberty and justice—must act in ways that will now surprise them. Including brutal force if necessary.
We #2A activists have known this for decades. Gun prohibitionists traditionally clamor for gun owners to "be reasonable" and agree to "sensible compromise." All we had to do to show this to be a deceptive pose was to point out "compromise denotes both parties being willing to give as well as take. What are you gun control advocates willing to give gun owners?" and watch the blank stares on their faces contort into their default grimace of scorn.
So I'm glad Claremont has seen the truth about our adversaries. They don't play nice and never did. Aggressive countermeasures are long overdue. Where are the GOP-authored bills to defund state universities? Where are GOP-authored bills to root out identitarian racists from state and federal bureaucracies? Where are conservative CEOs in the private sector (and we know you're out there, hiding in your foxholes, hoping to escape notice)?
All of this has been obvious for forty years and more. Your epiphany has come far too late.
I can’t think of more than five GOP senators who might deny any of the totalitarians’ initial assumptions and they tend to be people with their own axes to grind like the free market libertarian Rand Paul and the war forever imperialist Crenshaw. The few dissenting Democrat senators are demonstrating more courage and conviction than any member of the GOP except Kennedy.
In 2016 the GOP had it’s last chance to do something and they threw it away because they did not like either the cut of Trump's jib or the content of his policies. Sadly, Trump himself capitulated in August 2018.
The GOP leadership, Grassley, McConnell, Graham, Scott, McCarthy are quite happy to have inherited Bob Dole’s role as tax collectors for the welfare state. They seem think that is why they were elected. The Kavanaugh hearings and McConnell’s performance since January 6 demonstrated that beyond any doubt.
I share your and the author's indignation and dismay at the speed with which the very basis of reasoned discourse is being attacked. To be sure we knew it was out there. But what had been a seemingly distant storm broke upon us with a vengeance in 2020 and is now only strengthening as 2021 proceeds. Legitimately expressed opinions are being silenced with impunity by those whose sole purpose is the accumulation of power as an end in itself. We know we are in an existential crisis.
We know the two principal political parties and their co-conspirators have ratted us out for thirty pieces of silver. But how to stop their ongoing atavistic slide into the same depths the communists visited upon their victim nations in the twentieth century? The Illogic and irrationality of the left has gone so far and the political right has so abased itself that we may no longer reasonably look to reason and reality for a just and equitable solution.
I fear things will get worse before they get better. But get better they will. By definition extreme positions outrun their bounds and reaction inevitably sets in causing the pendulum to swing the other way.
Yet what will be lost before we see a semblance of equilibrium reestablished? More, I fear than any of us are prepared for. I am hardening myself and my position. But I know that that is at is at best a mere gesture of defiance. Animis opibusque parati.
The Constitution and the Republic, Western civilization, the Judeo-Christian ethic- those are not mere fancies. They are the hard-won experience and fruits of millennia of struggle to advance humanity. They are worth a great deal of trial and suffering. And if we are the people we used to be, they will again reassert their rightful preeminence in the great symposium of human experience. Dum spiro spero.

Spencer Klavan isn't 40 years old. Probably more around 30
Amen
