I suspect Mr. Klavan is "preaching" to the choir, and his thoughts are not reaching or illuminating the thinking of the multitude. This is NOT to assert any disagreement with him, but more in the way of commiseration. A pessimistic view is that America indeed is doomed. And there are two basic loses that warrant that conclusion: 1, a loss of spiritual faith; and 2, a loss or lack of control of education. We have for some time elected leaders that were primarily secularists that had only a superficial faith and/or belief and worship of God. Their "morality" was based on what was insisted upon by the masses...by the majority...and that level only to gain public office, and then never to be considered again (until required by another election). This essentially removed any ethical anchor that might keep any one of them conscious and a feeling of obligation to their oath of office that could resist the clear narcissistic self-dealing that delivers both money and power into their hands. Education is the second and effects us on an almost ubiquitous number of levels: a, education, where children are now not taught but indoctrinated with the ideology of Cloward and Piven with the application of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals that start with grade school, continue through High School and reach a zenith of indoctrinating zeal in Colleges and Universities; b, the same approach and practices now apply in the Media, as no longer does "unapproved" speech find any home in papers or on the air waves; c, electronic social media now is also controlled by the same ideology and avoids being called to task because they are privately owned and not official government censorship or denial; and d, a repetition of that ideology prevents government consideration of a, b, and/or c, thereby continuing the cooking of the populous frog as their freedom and rights are slowly brought to a boil only to evaporate into the universe, never to condense again. About the only chance for saving America is something impossible to see coming to pass: a violent coup to take over the Social Media and permit Free Speech once again, and a dismantling of the Federal Education Department, returning schools to local control. The only good news is that the decline will only be temporary as either China or Islam will ultimately control the area that now compromises the (no longer) United States of America. If I were starting school today, I would study both Arabic and Mandarin to be prepared for a totally new world...I'd give it a maximum of 20 years to come to pass. For the present, those in control want to destroy, not build.
